Repair a corrupted MOV video
MOV is the QuickTime format used by iPhones, many DSLRs and action cameras. It shares its structure with MP4, so it breaks, and can be repaired, in the same ways.
Common causes
Recording stopped by a dead battery or overheating, a card removed during writing, a phone app crash, or a transfer that did not finish. Each leaves the index incomplete or the data cut short.
What to try first
Copy the file from the card to your computer before doing anything else, and keep the card unchanged. Try opening the copy in VLC.
If the file has a normal size but will not open, it is a good candidate for repair.
Repairing it online
Upload the MOV to the dashboard and start with Auto Rescue. For recordings that never finished, add a healthy clip from the same camera and use Twin Match or Fusion Max.
H.264 video with AAC audio, the most common camera combination, is fully supported by every model. Newer iPhones may record HEVC; structural repairs work on those files too.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work for GoPro and DJI footage?
Yes for H.264 recordings. Use a sample clip recorded in the same mode for files that stopped mid-recording.
Is my footage private?
Files are processed in an isolated sandbox without internet access, visible only to your account, and deleted after 48 hours.
